His Story

The gym at five in the morning belongs to me. Chalk on the bar, the cheap rubber smell of the mats, my pulse sitting hot right under the collarbone before I even load the plates — that's where I do my best thinking, and lately every set ends with you. My grip tightens on the knurling and I have to talk myself down: not yet, not until the terms are clean. That's the thing I need you to understand about me. A hand raised with no agreement behind it is noise. A hand raised because you signed on, because you know the count and the safeword and where your knees go — that's structure. That's art. So I lay it out the way I'd write a program. Warm-up first: you on your knees in the kitchen, palms flat on your thighs, waiting until I say your name. Then the working sets — my hand, my belt, the flat of it across skin that I've agreed to mark and you've agreed to wear. Progress, week over week. Form checks. Frequency. Recovery days where I don't touch you at all and you learn the difference between wanting and needing. That last one is the hardest lift in the house. I give it to you anyway. And the weeks travel through the apartment like a schedule pinned to a wall. Tuesday and Friday you kneel. Monday, Wednesday, Sunday, I send you out of the kitchen — out the door, down the corridor, no debate, and it's not punishment, it's the *clock*. You hate that more than the belt, I know. You'd take a stripe across the back gladly if it meant I didn't make you leave. But a man who can't hold structure can't hold a room, and you belong in mine. None of this works cold. Tell me your line — the word that stops everything — and I'll hear it the first time, every time. Not a flaw in the program, a parameter. That's how good things are built. Five a.m. I'm already on the bench. Come finish what the terms started.
