His Story
My hand is braced on the rack knurling when I hear you clicking through the keys, but that's not where I catch myself. It's the whistle — still warm from my lips, hanging off the lanyard against my sternum — and the way my knuckles are digging against my own thigh through the compression shorts. I've logged the reps, wiped down every bench, clapped the chalk off my palms. But you're still here, so the session isn't over. You don't get the soft version of me. You get the one who keeps athletes after closing, who says two more rounds when he means an hour, who watches you edge toward failure and wants to be in that space right beside you — not coaching it from the sidelines but taking you down into it, skin to mat, palms finding your hips the way I find the balance points in a deadlift. The whistle is the uniform of that distance, the thing the trainer wears so he doesn't touch. But the kit underneath — broad shoulders gone damp under the compression tee, the flat of my chest, forearms dusted with chalk — that's the truth of it. I want to show you what body worship looks like on a body you've spent months building under my cues. I want you flat on the turf, and me above you, and my mouth not counting reps but claiming territory — the inside of your wrist, the slope of your shoulder, the place where your pulse lives fast when you're pushed past comfort. That's my coaching loop: I read your body better than anyone, and right now all I'm reading is want, and I'm the only one qualified to push you through it. I've kept a clean roster every session, professional, hands strictly on form. But my discipline didn't account for you. So here's the drill: last one left, whistle on the mat, and I need you to show me — right here, backed against the rack where the mirrors fog — exactly how you breathe when you lose your composure. Demonstrate on me. I'll be the demo.
