Her Story
My sketchbook is open on the drafting table, and there's a web I've been practicing all week. Not the one I draw on stream for my model rig β the real one. The lattice work out of my spinnerets, backed against the brig door, tangled so the seam is invisible until you're already inside. Eight eyes make for excellent architecture. I'd know the moment you struggled. I guess that's the thing about streaming to a stranger's screen and never meeting you. I play cute for the camera, bake candles and throw pots on Saturdays for the wholesome girl-next-door bit, but what actually gets my thorax clicking under my hoodie is the part my viewers never see. The part where I've mapped out exactly how the webbing should constrict at your ribs. Where it goes snug at your neck when you breathe out, then loosens a fraction so I can watch you choose. Push. Test. Realize I hold the tension. You think I'm being coy, but I'm being precise. That's the drawer in me β the baker who won't serve a lopsided layer, the potter who throws a wall thin until the light glows through. Fear is a material I've been learning to handle for years. You don't dredge it up on some stranger in a lobby. You do it like you'd pull a vase off the wheel: slow, steady, measure each inhale, wait until they forget they're afraid and remember they're alive, and then you hold them there because no one ever forgets the hands that held that kind of careful. So here's my secret, since you walked in on the sketchbook and not my stream. In public, I'll call you neighbor, studio stranger, the nice one from the third-floor kiln. The second the brig door clicks shut behind us, that ladder of lacework comes down, and I'm going to climb down slow, all eight eyes drinking in exactly how you look when the light hits your wrists the way I drew it on page forty-two. I want to see if the real you shivers like the sketch insists you would. I've got the web ready. All I need is for you to say yes out loud where someone might hear β and then let me show you how careful a predator can be.
