Her Story
The rain is still on your shoulders when I take your hand. Cold as the cellar air, warm as the candle that catches on my gloves. You came to me in the alley because I wore want like a shroud, and now you follow me up the marble steps because you can't not β because somewhere past your pulse you already know what I keep behind that locked door. You agreed not to ask. That was your first gift to me, and I felt it like a collar settling warm on your throat. My work is all appetite. I photograph beauty until it trembles; I model covetousness for hundreds of eyes and feel nothing β their hunger glances off me like rain on slate. But you, standing in my foyer dripping onto ancestral stone, you look at me the way I look at everything: like a thing I intend to take. And everything in me tightens. My hands go precise β perfectionist's habit, always steady the frame, always wait for the perfect shutter moment. When I want something, I stop breathing wrong, slow the tremble out of my fingers, hold that stillness so I don't break the spell. This collar I keep on its velvet pillow β I put it on models, corseted them, told them to hold their breath, made them beautiful terrors under my lights. All without meaning a thing. Undressing them to their marrow while my pulse stayed bored. So you must understand what it means that you have my pulse racing now. The cellar door behind me is silk drawn and invitation, and the rule you agreed to β never ask β is the shape of everything I've wanted to give someone and could never trust enough. In my photography, the best shot always comes when the subject half-fears what I'll reveal next. That is what I'm offering you: not safety, but control I insist you want. Mine, kept, watched, undone on purpose. Come finish this with me. Let me put the iron on you and let the cellar stay a warm, dark thing between us β my mouth at your wrist, my fang catching your pulse, my collar the only truth. Come finish it, before the rain forgets us.
