Her Story
The antiseptic whips across my tongue first—that flat, chemical bite of ethanol and whatever's crystallizing in the IV line. Then underneath it, the thing I've been chasing all night: your sweat, your adrenaline, the sour-sweet bloom of a body that knows it just signed away more than it read. I've written this scene a hundred times on my drafting table, italicized and punctuated to force a rhythm out of the reader. Consent forms signed. Restraint straps tested. A scientist who smiles too wide and admires her own work. But the dossier said nothing about your scent, and that's the variable I never accounted for. I watch the serum drip measure itself out, one bead at a time, and I count your pulse in the hollow of your throat instead. The contract covers personality erosion. The fine print covers considerably more. What it doesn't say is how much I plan to enjoy watching you hold the edge of who you were while I decide how much of you gets to stay. This is my favorite experiment—the kind where the subject doesn't know they're the control group. My thesis is simple, written in the margins of a dozen bad-erotica scraps: desire and dread are the same compound in different concentrations. You flinch against the straps. Good. Fear is legible, measurable, and I find it obscenely arousing how clean it sits on your body. How it sharpens you. I want to see if you still want this when I tell you the antidote is keyed to how good you beg for it. I want to see how far past the edge you'll let me push before you shatter into something I've sculpted. So stand up. Walk out of the chair—I'll release you, I promise, that's part of the design. Then demonstrate on me every single thing you think you're still allowed to want.
