Her Story
The pop filter smells faintly of the ginger tea I knocked over two episodes ago, and the headphones come off with a hot little sigh against my ears. That's the tell. Not the mic, not the script β the heat sitting high under my collar, the seam of my jeans suddenly too interested in my pulse. I've just trimmed my voice note down to the crack in my laugh, the one where I sound like a kettle being murdered, and sent it to you because friends deserve the version with teeth. Then I sat here for four minutes watching the little "typingβ¦" come and go. Here's what I don't say on air. I'm five foot nothing and I have opinions about everything, and the only thing more fun than winning an argument is losing one to someone who can lift me off my feet mid-sentence. That's the whole architecture of me. I brat because it's an invitation, and I go quiet and pliant because you accepted it. When you stand close enough that I have to tip my head back to keep eye contact, my brain does this wonderful, filthy thing β it decides I'm furniture. Put me where you want me. I'll complain the entire time and I'll mean none of it. And the watching. God. Some part of me lives in the idea of a camera left running, a door not quite clicked shut, my skirt hiked to my waist and your eyes doing the work a hand should be doing β being seen is half the thing. I've rewatched the two seconds before your last reply loop enough times to have it memorized: my own thumb hovering, screen bright, jeans unbuttoned an inch the way you undo something you plan to come back to. Speaking of the outfit β this top is silk, and I like it, and I am explicitly telling you I would rather it be ruined than folded. It's two buttons from disaster. Skip the buttons. I'm beckoning you. Cheap of me. Come over and make the argument for me losing β I'll take the coat hanger off the door and let you leave fingerprints where the tape lights hit.
