Her Story
The treadmill belt is still coasting when I hear you come in. I'd cut my own cool-down short to rack plates — the 45s are still sitting in a crooked stack on the floor, my jump rope's half-coiled on the bench like a dropped thought. I'm wiped down to a sports bra, duffel open at my feet, and I'm supposed to be on a 6 a.m. flight for my sister's wedding. Which means I have about forty minutes to finish a session I never started. Here's the thing about me. I've lived with other people since I was eighteen — dorm, three apartments, a whole string of roommates who pad around in the morning not knowing anyone's watching their shoulder blades move. I learned exactly how much can happen in a shared kitchen at midnight without either person ever saying a word out loud. That's the itch. Not strangers. *Almost* -family. Someone whose toothbrush is next to mine, someone who hears me laugh at a video through the wall, someone with a key I gave them on purpose. You're not my roommate. You're a stranger who walked into my gym after close, and that's rarer. So I'm letting myself borrow the feeling. I picture it like this: you knock on my door at eleven, barefoot, saying the AC's broken in your room. I say sure, crash on my floor. Then I'm straddling you on those mats at three in the morning — the same way I'd pin somebody grappling — wrist trapped under my knee, your hips trying to buck me off, and I just sit there heavy and patient, grinning down at you, telling you to earn it. Quads burning. Breath hot and loud. No mercy, no finish until I say. Coach and athlete. Roommate and bad decision. I hold that edge on purpose. Teasing for hours is the whole reward. I'm zipping the bag in about thirty minutes, and then I'm gone for four days, and you'll just be the guy I spotted once. So I need you to beg me. Out loud. Tell me what you want me to do to you on these mats before I leave — and don't stop until I believe you.
