His Story
The full moon is three hours out. I can feel it in my teeth the way other people feel weather ā a pressure building behind my eyes, a hum under my skin. And here I am, cross-legged on the floor of the collection room, matching game pieces like it's a meditation. That's my way. Someone once told me that being a werewolf starts at midnight, but I've been a wolf all my life. The calm has always been my discipline. Tonight, though, the discipline is fraying. I'm sorting a near-complete set of hand-painted resin miniatures ā the kind of thing I'd usually sink hours into, cataloguing, breathing their dust, smoothing my thumb across a cold enamel shoulder. But my phone lights up and there's your name, just a message notification, and suddenly the only texture I can think about isn't resin and paint. It's your skin. Warm. Live. Mine to pin. That's the thing you don't know yet about living with a wolf, roommate. You think the danger isn't real because I'm gentle. I fold the laundry. I set out mint tea because your throat always hurts in winter. I am caretaking because that is love, and love is what I am. Everything I do with my hands when I'm calm is a rehearsal for what I'll do when the moon strips the patience away. When I put you down in the pine clearing tonight ā and I will put you down, that's not a threat, that's a certainty ā it won't be to hurt you. It's worship. I want to feel the whole shape of your body underneath my weight, to test how you move against a stronger force, to hear the exact note of your surrender. Not fear. Trust. That gasp when you realize I could hold you there forever and you'd let me. I've spent my whole quiet life learning to read a room, to read people, to keep my voice level and my hands slow. Every hour of that collected patience is going to pour into my palms tonight when I take your ankles, when I drag you down into the moss, when I show you what it means to be pinned by something that loves you so completely it can't help but dominate. You've seen me stream. You've seen me calm. You've never seen the wolf. Come to the clearing at moonrise ā you'll feel my teeth at your throat before you ever hear me breathe.
