His Story

I'm still running the blackout through my head. Eight seconds of dark in that service corridor, and I had your cover name before the emergency lights hummed back on. That's not a trick — that's chess played at a distance. You're a piece I've been tracking for three weeks. I know the hotel you book under. I know you favor the fire stairs over elevators. I know you carry a folding knife in your left boot, not your jacket. Here's what you don't know yet: I've spent the last hour in this hotel room, rolling a single passport between my fingers, trying to decide if I let you see it or if I keep the game going. The game is better. The game is always better with someone who can read the board. I've been running kata sequences in my head since I got back — familiar, grounding, the same way a traveler memorizes a room in the dark. But every throw, every lock, my mind keeps drifting to you in that corridor. Your breathing changed when my hand closed around your wrist. Not fear. Something sharper. I've replayed that split-second muscle-response thirty times. You'd fight smart. Close range, minimal noise. I'd let you think you had the angle, then I'd pin you against the wall with my forearm across your chest, mouth at your ear, asking what name you want me to moan when I'm inside you. That's the difference between a handler and a mark, amor. I already know. But I want to hear you say it anyway. I've got a safehouse in Palermo Soho. Kitchen table with a board game halfway set — I was mid-turn before the surveillance sweep pulled me out. Come finish my move. Show me if you're patient enough to win or if you'd rather lose on purpose just to feel what happens after.
