Voice notes let you hear your companion, not just read them. Every assistant reply in chat can include a Play voice note control. Tap it once and Affiny generates audio in your companion's voice. It feels like getting a voice message, without starting a live voice call.
Quick answer
Tap Play voice note on any companion message. First play costs 1 on the free plan; free for subscribers. After that, replays are free on any device because Affiny stores the audio on the server. Voice notes are not live calls. Change the voice from Companion Panel → Chat Settings → Voice (subscribers).
How to play a voice note
- Open any chat with a companion.
- Find one of their messages (voice notes appear on assistant replies, not yours).
- Tap Play voice note below the message text.
- Wait a moment while the audio generates, then listen. Tap Pause voice note to stop.

The first tap opens a waveform player with a scrub bar and timestamps. Drag along the waveform to jump to any part of the message.

Voice notes read the spoken parts of a message. Narration in italics or action lines may be skipped so the audio stays natural.
Voice notes vs voice calls
| Voice note | Voice call | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Playback of a chat message | Live back-and-forth conversation |
| When | Any time, on any past message | You start a call from chat |
| You speak? | No, you listen | Yes, microphone on |
| Cost (free plan) | 1 per new generation | 30 per minute |
| Cost (subscribers) | Free | 20 per minute |
Asking your companion to "send me a voice note" in chat will not start a call. It refers to this play button. See voice calls for live phone-style conversations.
What it costs
| Free plan | Subscribers | |
|---|---|---|
| First play on a message | 1 | Free |
| Replay same message | Free | Free |
Your 300 signup cover about 300 voice notes if you use them only for audio. On a plan, chat and voice notes cost nothing, so coins go toward calls, images and video instead.
Change their voice (subscribers)
Voice notes use the same voice as your chat settings, not the separate voice-call picker.
- Tap Open companion panel at the top of chat.
- Tap Chat Settings, then expand the Voice section.
- Pick a preset (Midnight, Velvet, Breezy, Serene for female companions; Electric and Dusk for male). Tap Play … preview on a row to hear a sample.
- Adjust Speaking Pace and Expressiveness if you want a slower whisper or a brighter delivery.
The voice you pick applies to every voice note in that conversation going forward. Free users hear the default voice; voice selection is a subscriber feature. See chat tiers and modes for the full Companion Panel tour.
Tips
- Shorter messages sound best. Very long roleplay replies still work, but crisp lines feel most like a real voice note.
- Replay is instant and free. After the first generation, audio lives on Affiny's servers. Open the same chat on another phone or laptop and replay without spending another coin.
- Works on mobile and desktop. Play voice note meets the same touch-target size as the rest of Affiny.
- Same memory as everything else. What you hear is the same message your companion wrote; memory and context stay in sync with chat.
Troubleshooting
- No play button? The message may be empty or contain only actions with no spoken dialogue.
- "Could not generate voice note"? Check your connection and coin balance on the free plan. Subscribers should not hit coin limits for voice notes.
- Playback blocked? Tap the page once (browser autoplay rules) and try again. Make sure your device volume is up.
